Course Overview
From initial concept and story-boarding to digital animation and 3D environments, students understand how to work together in teams and individually to produce vocational projects in film and television visual effects. Students gain knowledge of the various roles and responsibilities in the industry, from the technical artists to the compositors and animators, and how these individuals work together to create visual effects. The qualification includes seven mandatory units and students study how to write proposals and pitches for a commission and to develop a visual treatment outlining their ideas and concepts. Through optional units students develop their technical understanding in film, games and animation to gain the skills and knowledge to turn their concepts into a reality.

Overall the course is the equivalent in size to 3 A Levels. 13 units of which 7 are mandatory and 4 are external.

QE6 Extras / Co-Curriculum Opportunities
You will be part of the Creative Media Department which is very active in organising enrichment activities. We organise various activities throughout the year such as University visits and field trips.
We also organise industry days to various organisations within the country and abroad. Creative Media students are encouraged to take part in taster days, competitions and other trips and activities that are on offer.
Progression
This qualification can lead to entry level positions of employment such as Post Production Runner or Animation Assistant as well industry led apprenticeships at VFX companies as a Junior 2D Artist or Assistant Technical Director. It can also be a pathway to higher education as it meets the requirements to most BA or BSc Hons degrees or FSc, FdA or HND foundation courses. Students studying vocational courses either go on to university to study or take up apprenticeships in a relevant field.
